Hair-do

Just one of the joys of having a girl for moms...getting to do hair! We tried making McKenna's hair curly...twisting it up wet overnight, and it worked fairly well. She is very patient letting me do her hair, since she's had hair for a while. I was thinking about cutting it short for the summer, but then I look at some of the girls in her class at school, whose hair is barely to their shoulders, and I think "I CAN'T DO IT!" We'll see when the time comes, I guess. Oh-and the picture at the bottom left is of Chris' latest game...shower pokey (the hokey pokey in the shower, to get McKenna to go under the water...she wasn't thrilled with the whole rain effect of the shower initially, so he made a game out of it which seems to work...he really does come up with entertaining stuff for them when he tries-maybe he should try all the time! :)

Sugar Plum Fairy

I just recently got this photo from school...they had posted it after the Halloween party at the school, and it was left on the bulletin board for a while (obviously). Since we didn't get any good pictures of McKenna in her full fairy garb, and since there are rarely any photos of me on here, I thought it post it despite being painfully past Halloween!

Thomas Bingo

Nolan got a Thomas DVD Bingo game for Christmas, and both he and McKenna love playing...Nolan actually gets the object of the game, but McKenna just likes to cover up all the trains. Nolan is great about helping her find the right trains to cover up...and is patient for the most part about letting her do it her way (even though it's not the RIGHT way). They really do get along well when she's not trying to torment him, and he's not pile-driving her! :)

more pets...

Well, I guess you can call them that...
Nolan and McKenna got hermit crabs with their Christmas money from Grandma and Grandpa, and Great-Grandma and Great-Grandpa (the crabs themselves were inexpensive, but they sure do need a lot of stuff!). Their shells came painted, so the kids went to the store and chose the ones they wanted (although I think they've switched a few times already, so they are community crabs at this point). I had to read all about what we needed for them, and all about them in general...did you know that hermit crabs can climb? I did not! But then after about an hour at home, we saw it first-hand! The picture on the middle right is of the crab climbing down (yes, he's upside down) from the top of the little tree we got for them to climb. And when we have them out walking on the table, they get to the edge and do a "dive and tuck" maneuver...I figured they would at least stop at the edge, but they kind of just keep going and once they realize they're no longer on terra firma, they tuck into their shell. That's some kind of faith (or stupidity...) The kids like them, but we didn't necessarily know that they are nocturnal when we got them, so we have to take them out of the tank (wake them up) to see any action. Oh well, they're pretty cool anyway (and pretty low maintenance for mommy). Oh-and another fun fact...they can live to be 20 years old...good thing the tank can be packed and taken to college!

Havin' Fun

McKenna thought this up all on her own, and Nolan thought she was just hysterical...
